Morris Gissing – Pharmacist

Pharmacist Morris Gissing pictured in the dispensary at Gissing’s Pharmacy on top of the hill in Fitzmaurice Street in the late 1950s. Picture: CSURA RW1574_673 (Lennon Collection).

After serving in the Army during World War 2, Morris Gissing trained at Sydney University as a Pharmacist. He returned to Wagga Wagga in 1950 and joined his father, Harry Gissing as a Pharmacist at what was then known as the Central Pharmacy in Fitzmaurice Street.

Harry Gissing died in February 1953 aged 64 leaving Morris to carry on the business.

In the 1950’s and even 60’s and 70’s it was still quite common for Pharmacists to individually prepare prescriptions for their patients as Morris is pictured doing here.
