- Kevin Wales had a slashing victory in Saturdays council election polling 3316 first preferences “below the line” and led a group ticket scoring another 4161 votes “above the line” to account for 28.51% of formal votes cast.
- A record number of four women, Julie Hoy, Karen Wright, Diana Simpson and Yvonne Gilchrist have been elected to Wagga City Council.
- The Wagga Jazz Festival featured a street parade in Fitzmaurice Street led by the Australian Army Band Kapooka.
- Mayor, John Harding hosted a Civic Reception for CWA State president, Patrisha Hurley who is in Wagga as part of The Wagga CWA branch’s 75th anniversary.
- Leagues Club general manager, Bruce Piercy, Club president Brian Lawrence and Des French from Wagga Motors are pictured in The Daily Advertiser congratulating Rita Hagelaar who won a Holden Barina in a Leagues Club special member draw.
- City to Lake fun run competitors streamed down Baylis on their way to Lake Albert last Sunday.
- Tolland Soccer Club won the Wagga Soccer Championships against Henwood in a tight match, with score 1-0.
- Peter Mulrooney, Sister Rosarie, Wanda Magill and Esmae and Maurice Salmon were among more than 40 people attending a Trinity Senior High School reunion at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club.
- Kooringal Colts fast bowler, Scott Honeyman has been selected to tour South Africa with the NSW Combined High Schools Cricket team.
- Local MG owner, Steve Foster will be participating in the MG Car Club’s annual rally to be held in Wagga this weekend.
- Newly crowned Group Nine premier Kangaroos has ditched the idea of forming a rugby league alliance with Wagga neighbour, Brothers.
- Andrew Johnston, Shaun Ellis, Charles Marchant and Justin Huntsdale were members of the Saint Michael’s Regional High School debating team which won the inter-school debating competition held by the Wagga Child Protection Interest Group to coincide with child protection week.
- Wollundry Rotary Club presented $30,000 to the Regional Radiotherapy Appeal.
- Wagga Greyhound Club president, John Jones, last night dispelled claims that the club was one of 13 the government planned on cutting in southern NSW in coming months.
- The fourth National Undergraduate Rural Health Conference is being held at Charles Sturt University with around 200 delegates from 15 Universities and Rural Health Clubs attending.

- Six people died in four fatal accidents in a horror weekend on Riverina roads.
- Mrs Marjorie Hamill, representing Wagga Quota Club presented a giant Teddy Bear to Sister Mary Ignatius to be used in the new Children’s Ward at Calvary Hospital.
- Keith Condon representing machinery dealers and Michael Knight president of Wagga’s Community Advancement Fund are pictured in The Daily Advertiser presenting a cheque for $450 to Wagga Rotary Club International Service Director, Leo Berben, to be used for the reconstruction of a school in Bangladesh.
- Peter Rocks, manager of Quintals who are sponsoring an art competition for school children is pictured in The Daily Advertiser discussing some of the entries with Mrs Wendy Baker, Childcare Week Coordinator.
- Bertie Murrell who has never been asked to show his licence to police or been involved in an accident has decided to hand in his driver’s licence after 65 years or conservatively 400,000 miles of driving.
- Hore and Davies Travel Service are advertising “Wagga’s Own” 14-day Pacific Cruise fully escorted by Hore and Davies staff aboard the P&O liner Arcadia.
- Eric Paull’s Furnishing in Baylis Street is advertising 54 different books of wallpaper patterns to browse and 2000 wallpaper rolls in stock.
- Steve Nicholls has joined RVN-AMV as a television newsreader.
- The Diamond House, J J Speirs, Wagga’s Watch Specialists have special reductions on Men’s Lanco Swiss Watches to less than half price.
- Twenty of the 27 candidates in the Wagga triennial Council election appeared before an audience of about 500 citizens at a public meeting convened by the Association of Riverina Cultural Clubs at the Wagga Civic Theatre.
- 21,700 citizens are eligible to vote in Wagga City Council elections this Saturday.
- A huge marquee to seat 2000 people has been erected at the Wagga Showgrounds in preparation for the Jehovah’s Witnesses District Convention starting this week.
- Wagga City Council has applied to the Federal Government for $400,000 financial assistance from the Regional Employment Development (RED) Scheme to fund an extensive program of works which if approved would take 2332 man weeks to complete.
- Thirty-Four teams will be playing in the Wagga Cricket Association 1974-75 season.
- Wagga swimmers including Michelle Farrah, 14, Vicki Howarth, 11, and Wayne Farrah,15, won three silver and five bronze medals at the Far West’s 5th annual meet at Broken Hill.
- Wagga combined sporting bodies will approach Wagga City Council seeking representation on a new Council Committee to control sporting facilities.
