  • “Mulga” (Lance) Fawcett retired after nearly 50 years with the Railways Department coinciding with the cessation of several long-standing rail motor branch services in the Wagga district.
  • Several rail services operating in and out of Wagga are being cancelled this week including rail motors operating between Wagga and Albury and Wagga and Tumbarumba. Further cuts to rail motors operating between The Rock, Wagga and Junee will follow in October.

  • Wagga’s mayor, Ald Morris Gissing said that the current expansion of the Wagga Municipal Abattoir was probably the largest single project ever undertaken in the city.
  • Ald R J Harris said he believed Government action was needed to prevent speculation in land which could result in enormously bloated profits.
  • Construction of a 50-mile pipeline to carry water from Gumly to Temora will begin shortly.
