- Tourism Wagga presented a cheque for $1500 to the Wagga Peace Communities Conference Committee to assist with the expense of organising international delegates to attend the conference.
- Margaret Dalmau, Ray King and Kylie Fahey are pictured attending a meeting of the revitalised Wagga Suicide Prevention Task Force.
- Wagga City Council’s Safer Towns and Cities, project officer, Melissa Dennison has prepared the cities first crime and safety profile which was launched by Mayor John Harding and police Superintendent Steve Bradshaw.
- Reverend Sandy McMillan and Group Captain Gary Pianegonda were among those attending a commemorative church service to celebrate Victory in the Pacific Day, Battle for Australia Day and Vietnam Veterans Day at Saint Aidan’s Presbyterian Church.
- Pioneer members, Bill Tipping, Darryl and Barbara Swansborough, Colin Pocock, Marie Papworth, Annie Aichroy and Tom McMullen were among those celebrating 20 years since the establishment of the Wagga branch of the Cancer Patients Assistance Society.
- Di Masling, David James, Blue Heelers actor John Wood and Ellie Kalenterdis were amongst those attending the Cops and Robbers Charity Bash at the Wagga Marketplace on Saturday night.
- Seven-month-old, Jake Shepherd was announced as overall winner of The Daily Advertiser – Gissing’s Pharmacy “Baby of the Year” Competition.
- Clare O’Brien, Greg Hulm, Julie and Gary Neinecke and Pat and Rod Walmsley are pictured enjoying the Stock and Station Agents, Farmers and Friends Charity Ball.
- One of the stalwarts of the union movement in Wagga, Leslie Hector Dallas, passed away at the age of 72 years.
- Mark Hillis and daughter Georgia are pictured attending the Mater Dei Primary School book parade.
- Stuart Darnley, Sam Lymberry, Robert Cook and Tricia Salway from 1st Kooringal Scouts were presented the Adventurer Cord Award, the highest award within the Scout section.
- NSW Women’s Bowling Association presented special badges to bowlers over 80 years of age at the Wagga Women’s Bowling Club.
- Haven resident, Reta Toshack celebrated her 100th birthday with close family and friends many of whom had travelled long distances for the occasion.
- Popular Wagga businessman, Milton Ingram, died after a long battle with cancer.
- A 10-year foreshores rehabilitation program for Lake Albert, costing $250,000 has been recommended by Council’s director of recreation and cultural services, Kerry Geale.
- Complaints about excessive noise and anti-social behaviour at the Kooringal Hotel have halted plans for the venue to offer live entertainment until 1 am.

- North Wagga was evacuated in anticipation of the Murrumbidgee River reaching a height of 34 feet. The river subsequently peaked at 35 foot, 2 inches inundating almost all of the 200 houses in North Wagga with between five and eight feet of water.
- A special rail service is operating between Wagga, Junee and Bomen to provide emergency transport because of severe flooding of the Olympic Way at North Wagga.
- Eddie Charlton clinched the 1974 Australian Open Professional Snooker Championship held at the Wagga RSL Club.
- Peter McCoullough Real Estate are selling land in Mt Austin for $6,000, Eastlakes $7,000, Red Hill Road $9,500 and Lakeside for 12,000.
- Mrs G Donald, Mrs Grant Slocum and Mrs M Pollard from Wagga Quota Club presented a cheque for $900 to Sister Stephen, the Superior of the Loretto Home of Compassion to help purchase blankets for their new home.
- Wagga Fire Chief, Station Officer Laurie Gallagher was badly cut by falling glass in a fire which damaged the front display section of the Commerce Permanent Building Society building in Baylis Street.
- Rowland Evans, John Stephenson, Len Hawker, David Waters and Pat Keogh were among members of South Wagga Lions Club who painted the interior of the Senior Citizens Centre as part of their civic betterment project.
- Four Wagga secondary schoolgirls, Vicki Marks, Belinda Paul, Anne Christie and Dianne McKenna to play with the NSW Schoolgirls hockey team in Brisbane and Maryborough.
- Mrs V Samuelson, manageress of the Tijuana Sewing and Knitting Centre announced that a new series of Fashion Classes would begin shortly aimed at providing amateur dressmakers with the means of obtaining a professional finish to their work.
- Sydney Rathmell and his wife, Frances celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the CWA house in Johnston Street.
- The Association of Riverina Cultural Clubs has organised a public meeting at the Civic Theatre with Wagga City Council election candidates.
- The inaugural meeting of the Euberta CWA branch was held, presided over by two Riverina Group vice-presidents, Mrs Lashbrook of Collingullie and Mrs Lucas of Coolamon.
- Turvey Park Australian Rules Football Club was fined $20 for failing to give full protection to Umpire Peter Holmes of the VFL as he was leaving Gissing Oval after a game against Coolamon.
- Southern Riverina County Council electricity tariffs will increase by 10% next week.
