Fifty years ago Ald R J Harris was elected as Mayor of Wagga for 1967.
He defeated the retiring Mayor, Ald I J Jack in a secret ballot by six votes to five. Ald Jack had been Mayor of Wagga for 11 terms including a record eight years in sucession. Ald W P Brennan was elected unopposed to the position of Deputy Mayor.
