- Versatile local sportsman, Fred Jenkins, well known in cricket, soccer, hockey and baseball circles has died suddenly at the age of 72.

- Wagga’s third Rotary Club, to be known as the Rotary Club of Wagga – Kooringal is holding its charter presentation evening at Romano’s Hotel.
- At least nine South Wagga Apexians including John Bittar, Rodney Parsons, Bob Boucher, and John Mueller are walking 30 miles from Gundagai to Tarcutta as part of a marathon round-Australia walk to raise funds for autistic children.
- Dalco Agencies started just three years ago by Allan Davis has become one of the Riverina’s biggest distributing agencies and has now opened a new modern warehouse in Hammond Avenue.
- The Wagga and District Public Schools Sports Association held its annual carnival at Gissing Oval.
- More than 300 teenage volunteers will knock on every door in the city to raise funds for the “Freedom from Hunger Campaign”.
- Twenty-six clean-shaven men have entered the “Biggest Beards in Six Months” section of the beard-growing contest being held in conjunction with the Wagga Centenary of Local Government next year.

- Susie Call was the final winner in this year’s Miss Leroy Quest held in conjunction with Huthwaites spring fashion parade.
- Member for Wagga, Mr. Wal Fife has asked the Minister for Transport, Mr. Morris to install traffic lights on the corner of Docker and Edward Streets.
- About 250 people including Mr. Chris Jarvis, Miss. Wendy Bruce and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bruce attended the Debutante of the Year Highland Ball.
- Wagga City Council has approved a plan put forward by Parks and Gardens Superintendent, Mr. T Wood to pump water from Wollundry Lagoon to water adjoining parks.
