- New South Wales TAFE Commission and RAAF Wagga signed a contract for technical training at the Base to be provided by the Riverina Institute of TAFE.
- Police intelligence officer, Senior Constable Pedro Fernandez said Wagga’s 24-hour police hotline will remain open indefinitely following a fruitful first month of operation.
- A second synthetic hockey field has been opened at Jubilee Park which President of Wagga Combined Hockey, Anne Paul says will allow Wagga to stage NSW State fixtures.
- Cr Joe Mason-Cox urged Council to drop the idea of developing Northside Shopping Centre as a cultural centre and suggested Council make building a new administrative centre its top priority.
- A Wagga man who slapped his wife across the face during a domestic argument was fined $500 in Wagga Local Court.
- Smoking marijuana in Baylis Street resulted in a $50 fine for an unemployed man.
- The Wagga snooker pairs championship were won by John Raczkowski and Steve Oakman with runners-up Bruce Neville and Ross Cubby.
- Hundreds of mourners gathered at St Michael’s Cathedral for the funeral of Antony Buik who was killed recently in a terrorist attack in Uganda.
- Selling Agent, Wes Russell announced that the Wagga City Bowling Club room and greens will be sold at auction soon with the proceeds being used by the Club to relocate to the Wagga Leagues Club.
- Andrew Macken has been chosen in the boys under 15 orienteering team for the Australian school’s championship to be held in Adelaide.
- Waratahs gave a tradesman-like display to defeat Tumut 25-10 in Riverina Rugby Union’s Byrnes Cup at Kapooka.
- Henwood Park Hawks won the Wagga Soccer Association’s Bowen Shield for the best goal aggregate and David and Gwen Gardiner were presented with the Administration Award at the Wagga Soccer Association awards night.
- Managing Director of the ABC, David Hill announced that the upbeat youth radio network Triple J will be heard on Wagg’s airwaves next year.
- Wagga City Council cautiously approved the construction of a 16-bed motel next to the Wagga Winery.

- Aldermen Cec Toy and George Brown have strongly criticised Council’s “outdated policy” regarding awnings over offices and shops in Wagga’s business area.
- Wagga’s Mayor, Ald R J Harris was accidentally struck on the head with a boomerang during a demonstration of boomerang throwing for a group of visiting Americans.
- The song “Wagga, You’re Calling Me Back” written for Back to Wagga celebrations in 1927 has been chosen as the theme song the Wagga Centenary of Local Government celebrations next year.
- More than 400 National Servicemen and Regular Army recruits who have completed 10 weeks basic training took part in a parade at Kapooka Military Camp which was reviewed by Brigadier G Trainor MBE Acting Commander of the Royal Artillery in Sydney.
- Miss Jenny Schneider and Mr. Tony Minty were among the large crowd attending the Cootamundra Turf Club ‘s Black and White race meeting at Wagga.
- Bill Lampe secretary of the Wagga Night Trotting Control Board said that the Wagga Show Society had made extensive alterations to the turns on the Showground Trotting Track.
- Science Master, Brother Hamilton said that Trinity High School students have begun moving into their new $52,000 Science block.
- Board Secretary, Mr R R Peberdy said that the Wagga group W G Huthwaite Holdings Ltd reported increased turnover and profit last year with annual profit reaching $146,000.
- Wagga Pony Club was the top-scoring Club in the Pony Club of NSW State Jumping Championships held at Griffith.
- Fourteen models, including two male models, one of whom was Milton Elliott, paraded over 130 garments for an audience of 525 at Edmondson’s Spring and Summer Fashion Parade held at the Leagues Club for the Spastic Council.
- Walton’s are selling famous Pioneer chainsaws from only $1.40 weekly.
