- Wagga’s oldest Hockey Club, Harlequins, celebrated 40 years with a reunion at the Senior Citizens Centre.
- MTC Chairman, Murdoch McLennan rejected criticism of the MTC by committee members, Chris Fitzpatrick and Allan Podmore who tendered their resignations at a committee meeting last week.
- Wagga Red Cross, members and guests celebrated the 80th Birthday of Red Cross.
- Riverina Zone Manager for the Smith Family announced that at least 100 scholarships, each valued at $300 will be awarded to high school students as part of the Smith Families EDU-CATE program.
- Senior Sergeant Barry Hardwick told Wagga’s police community consultative committee that the presence of a periodic detention centre in Wagga would help lower the incidence of crime.
- Melissa Leddin, 14, beat last year’s National champion to claim No 1 ranking in the Australian Karate Federation national titles.
- A Wagga women’s rugby league team played against a Canberra team as a curtain-raiser for the Kennedy Shield grand final at Harris Park.
- Kurrajong Recyclers manager, Geoff Pym is pictured in the Daily Advertiser with a new machine which will double Kurrajong’s capacity to recycle aluminium cans.
- Life member and original founder of the Marriage Guidance Centre, Trixie Read, looked on as Member for Riverina, Noel Hicks unveiled a new sign for Relationships Australia in Peter Street.
- Wagga Rescue Club will replace ageing radio equipment thanks to a grant of $1500 from the Community Advancement Fund.
- Mayor Pat Brassil told the Remuneration Tribunal that Councillors should receive an annual fee of between $7,000 and $8,000.

- Bishop of Wagga, Dr F P Carroll led 1,500 young men and women in a “Walk for Christ” from St Michaels Cathedral to the Kyeamba Smith Hall.
- Retiring President of South Wagga Apex handed over to incoming President, John Dinnell at the club’s annual changeover dinner.
- Four men, one of whom had been the driver of a car which crashed through the wall of the Wagga Courthouse appeared in Wagga Court of Petty Sessions charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
- Albert Boyton of Illabo and Ian Measday of Wagga each won equal first place in the powerboat handicap races held in ideal conditions on Lake Albert.
- Lou Butcher of Wagga High School and Chris Maddock of Christian Brothers were first across the finish line in the inter-high school cross country championship.
- Immediate past president of Wagga Apex, Richard Gray, told the club’s 37th annual meeting that more than 1480 service hours, an average of 34 per member, had been worked by members over the year.
- Mr and Mrs Colin Butt of “Moonooka” via Wagga were among the guests at a wine tasting evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Galva Nitschke.
- Mr Jack Skeers, President of the Wagga Chamber of Commerce, speaking as a member of the local ALP branch, criticised police roster changes which he said could result in the force being inadequate to protect the public.
- Wagga’s major department stores have denied allegations of sacking girls when they reach 19 years of age to employ younger girls for lower wages.
- Council has directed the Superintendent of Parks and Gardens, Mr T Wood to investigate the economics of pumping water from Wollundry Lagoon to water nearby parks and gardens.
- Council also decided to take no further action on a suggestion to investigate an extension of Lake Albert.
- A charge of offensive behaviour against a young Wagga man arising out of an incident at a dance at St Joseph’s Hall earlier this year was adjourned in Wagga Court for the third time.
- The Wagga Racing Pigeon Club held its second race from Carragabal with Keith Harmer’s bird first home.
- About 90 pupils from the Wagga High School Cadet Unit took part in their annual parade which was reviewed by Air Commodore G F De La Rue, Commanding Officer of the Forest Hill RAAF Base.
- Wagga’s Mayor, Ald R J Harris officially opened the 1969 Wagga Drama Festival at the Civic Theatre.
