The Wagga Beach Caravan Park has long been a very popular spot on the Murrumbidgee River alongside the Wagga beach as this 1960’s photo from the Lennon Collection shows..

It is however due to close when its current lease from Wagga City Council ends in 2019. The Caravan Park will then relocate to the Wiradjuri Reserve.

The second stage of council’s riverside project will build upon the existing facilities at Wagga Beach and include “pop-up shops” built from converted shipping containers, a large playground incorporating water features, more barbecue facilities and additional car parking.

According to mayor Greg Conkey, speaking earlier this year to the Daily Advertiser, it would be an ideal location for events as the civic precinct was starting to get crowded.

“This is going to open up more open space and make a great venue for festivals, at the moment we’re fairly confined because of the caravan park,” Cr Conkey said.

Wagga City Council is putting up $1.7 million, while the NSW government is contributing $5 million for the new works.
