·         Mayor Pat Brassil opened the $3 million stage one extensions of the Wagga Leagues Club.

·         Dean of CSU’s Faculty of Science and Agriculture, Associate Professor, Jim Pratley addressing the 22nd Riverina Outlook Conference said, “the farmer that survives the next decade will be well educated, computer literate and be up on business and marketing.”

·         Wagga man, Peter Dominguez has invented an over-toilet frame for aged and disabled people called DARTS (disabled armrest toilet support).

·         Wagga City Council has appointed Neil Stubbs as Community Services manager a position vacated by John Craig who is now head of Council’s Health and Building Department.

50 Years Ago

·         Wagga’s Botanic Gardens were officially opened by Mr T R N Lothian OBE the president of the Australian Institute of Parks and Recreation and director of Adelaide’s Botanic Gardens.

·         After conferring with theatre manager, Claude Fisher, the Mayor, Ald R J Harris banned a striptease variety show scheduled to appear soon at the Civic Theatre.

·         Chairman of the Murrumbidgee District Ambulance, Morris Gissing, said that they have taken delivery its first new-type crash vehicle costing $4000 and capable of carrying four stretcher patients

·         Andrew McClure, Michael Quinlivan, Paul Rogers, David O’Brien and Brendan Lindsay made up the successful Christian Brothers junior debating team which defeated Mt Austin High to win the Community Advancement Shield.

·         One of the latest entrants in the Miss Wagga Quest is 18-year-old, Dawn Lowe sponsored by Huthwaite’s.

·         The annual presentation day and demonstration by pupils of the Beverley Waters School of Dancing was held at their premises at the Wagga Showground.

·         Inspector W O Hart and Mrs Hart welcomed nearly 300 guests attending the Wagga Police Ball in the Police Boys’ Club.

·         Wal Blake, president of the Wagga and District Bowling Association presented the Wagga City Bowling Club singles championship trophy to Mr Noel Thompson.

·         Mr D A Swan has been appointed to follow Mr J F Bingham as the new Area Director of Education for the Riverina.

·         The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews, is playing at Hoyts Theatre
