The line was proposed as early as 1881 and extended from Wagga through stations including, Forest Hill, Ladysmith, Tarcutta and Rosewood to Tumbarumba. It was 129km in length.
Passenger trains ceased in 1974 after significant flooding.
Today community groups in Wagga and Tumbarumba are seeking to turn sections at each end of the line into public rail trails. Click Wagga and Tumbarumba for details.
Another group, TumbaRail, based at Ladysmith is seeking to preserve a section of the Tumbarumba railway line through their operation of trikes on the track.
