Carols by Candlelight 1966

Despite threatening weather 3,000 people attended the Carols by Candlelight Festival at the Wagga Memorial Gardens, reported the Daily Advertiser in 1966.

For the first time the annual event had a real Australian flavour with several Australian carols on the program.

A combined choir from Wagga primary schools and a choral group from Turvey Park Demonstration School led the singing.

The duetists were the Ansell Sisters from Wagga.

A special greeting was delivered by the Rev. McKenzie Baird on behalf of the organising body, The Christ in Christmas Campaign Committee representing Wagga churches.

Music was supplied by the Salvation Army Band and organist, Mr Fred Button. The narration was delivered by Mr. John Duncan.
