June 1991 – For the first time in the 117-year history of the Presentation Sisters as Catholic teachers in the community, a lay person will be appointed as principal of Mt Erin High School.
Applications were called this week for the position.
Current principal, Sister Maureen Watson who will relinquish her position at the end of the year, said the Presentation Sister numbers were dwindling and that the position will now be open to lay Catholics.
After seven years in the position Sister Maureen is returning to the school where she was principal before coming to Wagga – Domremy College at Five Dock.
The Presentaion Sisters first came to Wagga in 1874 to conduct lessons for Catholic children.
