  • Plans for an $880,000 extension to Wagga’s Remembrance Village have been lodged with Wagga City Council.
  • More than 20 protesters marched on the streets of Wagga protesting the inappropriate placement of young people with disabilities in aged care facilities.
  • Melba and Joe Clements celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a party hosted by Mrs Clement’s chief bridesmaid, Sadie Webster.

  • Almost 50 members of the Wagga Women’s branch of the Liberal Party gathered for a luncheon featuring Sir David Smith who was the man who read the famous proclamation sacking Gough Whitlam on the steps of Parliament House in 1975.
  • A Wooden family reunion was well attended at Wagga’s Botanic Gardens.
  • Wagga Swimming Club point-score champions, Tegan Masson, Brent Dolahenty and Ella Gannon received their trophies at the club’s presentation night.

  • Wagga City Council is awaiting tests of pavers in the main street after complaints from several residents who claimed they had slipped on the pavers.
  • A speaker system worth more than $4000 has been stolen from Kooringal’s Sacred Heart Church. It is the third theft from the premises in the past three months and an alarm system has now been installed.

  • President of the Southern District Medical Association, Dr F V Joseph told a Wagga Chamber of Commerce meeting that the Federal Government Medibank Scheme would lead to lower standard, cheap medical services in Australia.
  • Three RAAF helicopters flew overhead as 1000 uniformed RAAF airmen marched down Baylis Street exercising their privilege of the Freedom of the City granted to Forest Hill RAAF Base in 1961.
  • Kooringal Sacred Heart cricket team won the Wagga Cricket Association, Jack Misson premiership shield. Captain Phillip McDonald and vice-captain, Tony Doughty are pictured with coaches Mrs Ruth Galvin and Mrs Lorraine Hill.
  • Dux of 34 graduates of the Wagga Agricultural College, Dennis Pascall and fellow graduate, with distinction, James Ross of Holbrook are pictured with Dr Helen Newton Turner who delivered the Occasional Address at the College graduation ceremony.
  • The first ever women graduates, Miss Janet Elizabeth Anthony, Mrs Michelle Louise Hird, Miss Merilee Robyn Morris and Miss Helen Margaret Rick also graduated at the Agricultural College ceremony.

  • Wagga is receiving $1 million of unemployment relief funds and flood restoration grants which will allow Wagga City Council to employ 121 people on special works throughout the city.
  • A Trade Union Week ended in Wagga resulting in about 400 workers joining more than 20 different unions.
  • Miss Joan Potter, a former matron at Wagga Base Hospital who has been working as the director of the World Vision, New Life Babies Home in Saigon has been evacuated to Sydney accompanied by 17 children from the home who have been billeted in Sydney.
  • Wagga Leagues Club is planning a spectacular concert including Sydney entertainers, Jade Hurley and Terry Gordon to aid the Prime Minister’s Vietnam Refugee Appeal.
  • About 60 people representing various community organisations attended a community development seminar at the Wagga City Council Chambers.
  • A $300,000 contract for extensions to South Wagga Primary School has been awarded to Peters Constructions Pty Ltd of Tumut.
