  • Former Wagga resident Peta Nieuwerth and her daughter Samantha were named as the Face of Australia in an Australia Post photographic competition.

  • After Council moved to accept the third lowest tender for garbage services, Mayor, Dick Gorman said that Wagga people would receive a better-quality garbage service next year, but they would have to pay for it.
  • Wagga petrol prices are increasing this week to 64.4 cents a gallon for super and 61.5 cents a gallon for standard. Lubricating oils will also rise by 2 cents a pint.
  • Former Wagga City Alderman, Mr A L Cook objected strongly to a report that Council was considering closing the Wagga Cemetery as it was extremely costly to ratepayers to maintain.
  • There has been a spate of fires with Wagga Fire Brigade containing 10 fires in the last three days including one at the Astor Hotel-Motel.
  • One of the Riverina’s best-known hoteliers, Kevin Patick Carmody, died. Mr Carmody who was 75, had conducted the Victoria Hotel for 30 years until last year.
