- Wagga Ratepayers and Citizens secretary/treasurer, Galva Nitschke said a $500,000 budget blowout for the new Civic Centre was another of “continual errors” made by “the worst council of all time.”

- A huge crowd, estimated at more than 6,000 at the Wagga Civic Gardens saw a stunning 19-year-old, Deidre Kendall crowned as Miss Wagga 1972 by the Mayor of Wagga, Ald M Gissing.
- Superintendent R A R Allen said that fatal car accidents in the Riverina Police Administrative District had fallen from 120 in 1970 to 102 in 1971.
- Wagga’s first baby of 1972 is Keith Bell, pictured in the Daily Advertiser with his proud Mum, Lorna Bell.
- Vic Whyte has retired from the railways after 35 years, having never missed a day’s work.
- John Gurd, committeeman and member of the Wagga Golf Club and lecturer at the Wagga Teachers College for several years was farewelled at the club prior to his transfer to Armidale.
- Wagga swimmers, Peter Billingham and Belinda Paul have qualified to compete in the NSW Age Championships to be held in Sydney.
- 267 learners attended the Education Department’s second series of swimming classes at the Wagga Baths.
