- Member for Wagga, Joe Schipp presented Premiers Awards for Community Service to Helen Abigail, Mona Collins, and Laura Price. Also attending the presentations were Member for Riverina, Noel Hicks and Senior Citizens Association patron, Joe Mason-Cox.
- Highly respected, Dr Bruce William Ian Harding who came to Wagga in 1953 to join a medical practice with Dr’s Austin Lewis and Goldsmith and who later became the area geriatrician has died after being ill for some time.
- 79-year-old owner of Edna May’s Cake and Sandwich shop in the Australian Arcade, Edna Clear, known to most as “Pidgie”, has retired.
- Mayor, Peter Dale said that Wagga City Council cost cutting measures are set to reverse a forecast $713,482 deficit but that this would reduce services to the city’s ratepayers.
- Original Woolworths staff members, Marie Tulk, Lyn Lugton, Maureen Burkinshaw and Lesley Noye celebrated the stores 25th anniversary with a special cake cutting ceremony.
- Councillor Kay Hull, chairman of Tourism Wagga Wagga told a council committee that loutish behaviour by street kids was driving some visitors away from the Wagga Tourist Caravan Park.
- The Herb Siebels Green was officially opened at the RAFC Bowling Club by Royal NSW Bowling Association State President, Bill Trethowan.
- Bishop William Brennan and Member for Riverina, Noel Hicks officially reopened St Joseph’s Primary School.
- Professor Ted Wolfe, Frank and Joan Jongebloed and Bill and Shirley Fitzgerald were among those wishing Wagga businessman Max Croker a happy retirement at a function at the RSL Club.
- Peter Anderson who began his trade at the Oxford Printery in Wagga and moved to the Daily Advertiser in 1987 has been appointed manager of the commercial printing division at the Daily Advertiser.
- Council director of engineering and technical services, Gary Wells said that Wagga was among the “highest performers in the recycling industry” with more than 8400 tonnes of paper, plastic and glass kept out of the Wagga tip over the last four years.
- “Volunteers in Policing” including Ellen Treston and Councillor Michael Georgiou are gathering contact details from local business owners and keyholders.
- The Holden Golf Scramble competition will be held this week at the Wagga Country Club with a second event scheduled for the Wagga Golf Club in April.
- Cannons are advertising San Bernadino Riesling in 4 litre wine casks for $7.49, Penfolds Club Port, 750ml bottles for $6.49 and Victorian Bitter stubbies for $25.49 a case.
- The Firefighters Union claimed that inadequate staffing levels at the Turvey Park fire station was endangering the lives of fire fighters and the community.

- Council curator of parks and gardens, Tom Wood was recognised as an expert in his field by the Sydney Morning Herald country gardens competition which awarded first prize to the Wagga Botanical Gardens and highly commended the Victory Memorial Gardens and Collins Park.
- Three Wagga Rescue Club members led by Sgt. Nev Tamlyn found the body of a 33-year-old Wagga man who had disappeared two days ago from a flat-bottomed fishing boat at Lake Albert.
- Wagga City Council will refer to the Wagga Show Society, complaints by local residents of excessive noise during dances at Kyeamba Smith Hall.
- Victoria Newell, 10 won the sack race at the South Wagga Public School athletic carnival.
- Dr. C.I.V. Childs chairman of the Birralee Committee received a cheque for $450 for the purchase of a refrigerator from president of the Wagga Quota Club, Miss J. Holloway.
- Wagga City Council is closing for an annual employee’s picnic day which will be held at the Cricket Ground.
- Chairman, Doug Phipps, said that South Wagga Rotary Club was hosting an eight-day Rotary Youth Leadership Award Seminar for the first time in Wagga.
- Sportsmaster, Tom Sumsky, congratulated captain, Ian Inglis, after Wagga High School defeated Mount Austin High School in the Byrnes Shield cricket match at Bolton Park.
- Hillis Ford are advertising a one owner, used 1967 Holden HD utility for $990, a used 1963 Holden EJ Special sedan for $750 and a used 1963 Cortina 2-door sedan for $690.
- Principal of the Wagga Agricultural College, Mr B.F. Atkins has been appointed to the Interim Council of the Riverina College of Advanced Education.
- The Wagga Branch of the RSPCA has asked Wagga City Council to assist it in building a shelter for “unwanted dogs”.
- Unconfirmed reports suggest that Melbourne car and tyre dealer, Bob Jane is seeking a suitable service station to sell his cut-rate petrol in Wagga.
- Walton’s are advertising a three piece “Casino” lounge suite for $249 or $1.30 weekly.
