- An estimated 1300 people flocked to the Wagga swimming pool giving the facility its biggest day this season with a pool worker saying that the pool was still packed at 8pm.
- Southern Riverina Electricity and Water network manager, Hany Hanna said a near record daily amount of electricity was used as the mercury climbed to 39.8 degrees Celsius.
- Councillor Jim Eldridge called for a blanket ban on brothels in Wagga.
- Ace, an all-black German Shepherd cross police dog and his handler, Senior Constable Andrew Mahoney have joined an intensive police crackdown on street crime and break and enter offences.

- More than 500 people attended the funeral of William Clyde Fife, who had been an alderman of Wagga City Council for more than 22 years, at St John’s Church of England.
- Southern Riverina Council water supply engineer, Mr F C Baker said that a massive 60,462,000 gallons of water were consumed in Wagga during a seven-day period ending on 13th January.
- Commonwealth Employment Officer at Wagga, Mr R L Condon said that although more school leavers had registered for employment this year it was expected that most would be placed in employment by February.
- More than 700 children packed Edmondsons’ store for a miniature circus conducted by Dante, the magician.
- The Mayor, Morris Gissing and aldermen gave a civic welcome to Air Commodore G E Prosser the new Officer Commanding RAAF Base, Forest Hill who is succeeding Air Commodore G F De La Rue.
- Mick Jagger is starring as Ned Kelly in the movie now screening at Hoyts Theatre.
