- Police reported a relatively quiet New Year’s Eve with Wagga’s main celebration around Romano’s Hotel attracting a crowd of about 2,000 revellers.
- Yvonne Pickering of Kooringal welcomed her new son, Tristan, Wagga’s first 1996 baby.
- A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged after two bystanders foiled a robbery attempt at the Wagga Mutual Credit Union.
- Police, Chief Inspector Neville, Tarleton presented a certificate of appreciation to Stephen Reid recognising his help in apprehending a juvenile at Kooringal on 6th July.
- Donna Brown, Kellie Spackman and Sharon Wilson were among those enjoying the MTC races in Wagga on Saturday.
- Plans to increase recruit numbers at 1RTB Kapooka are going ahead as the $21.5 million revamp of the base hits top gear.

- District Telephone Manager, Mr F. Earle said that the introduction of six-digit telephone numbers and STD facilities had been postponed until later this year.
- Wagga’s first ever Prawn Night (with chicken alternative) is being held this week at the Wagga Leagues Club at a cost of just $1.50 per person.
- Mrs E. Mooney and her daughters, Debbie and Diane were among the large crowd attending the Wagga Race Meeting on Saturday.
- Wagga teacher, Douglas Boughton and his wife Thelma are moving to Calgary in Canada were Douglas plans to study art education.
- Paul Galloway at Kincaid Motors in Fitzmaurice Street is advertising selected used cars including a 1965 Humber Vogue sports sedan for $990 and a 1964 Valiant AP5 manual sedan for $950.
