- Mayor Pat Brassil announced he would not contest the mayoral vote after polling 2068 votes behind Citizens Reform candidate, Jim Eldridge with 5485 votes and Ratepayers and Citizens Association, Lindsay Vidler with 5277 votes in this week’s local government elections.
- Laurie Richardson, Kevin Wales, Chris Miller, John Francis, Jim Weedon, Michael Georgiou, and Jim Rees were all elected to Wagga City Council for the first time in this week’s local government elections.
- Deputy chief of the CSIRO Division of Water Resources, Dr Kathleen Bowmer, has been appointed as the new principal of Charles Sturt University Wagga.
- Salomi Charalambous travelled from Cyprus to visit her favourite nephew, Michael Georgiou, who she had not seen for almost 46 years.
- The Australian Festival Of The Voice is being held in Wagga this week and next week.
- Jenny McRae won the Business Girls Cup with runner up Jenny Myers at the annual championships held at Wagga Golf Club. Other trophy winners included Elaine Bischard, Sue Loveday, and June Rootes.
- Local agents Lowry and Howick are marketing 400 new sites for development at Bourkelands.
- Champion distance swimmer, Susie Maroney, herself, an asthmatic was in Wagga to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Asthma Foundation in the city.
- Wagga man Allan Norris and his daughter Kelly will crew one of the Bathurst Legends Rally cars leaving Melbourne next week.
- Kooringal High School students achieved outstanding results in the Australian Schools Science Competition conducted by the University of New South Wales.
- Jewell supermarket is selling 1250ml Coke for $1.08, Jatz Crackers 250g for 98 cents and Flora 600g for $1.28.
- A gang of about 10 youths bashed a 21-year-old man at about 1.30am in Baylis Street near the Victoria Hotel.
- A tuckshop at Wagga’s Henschke Primary School was extensively damaged in what appears to be a deliberately lit fire.
- Danny Millman from Wagga Tigers won the Riverina Football League Lou Brown Medal for 1995 best and fairest under 18’s and Gary Hoffman from Turvey Park won the Gaynor Medal for the best and fairest in the reserves 1995 awards.

- Late August rain had ensured excellent pasture growth, and more than adequate stock feed said Mr J. K. H. Graham, District Livestock Officer with the Department of Agriculture.
- Two people were killed on the same day in separate road accidents near Wagga.
- Ex-students, Peter Dale, Geoff McNeice, John Waring, Peter Wild, Malcolm Nixon, and Ken Campbell have chartered a plane to attend the Wagga High School Ex-students Association Blue and White recovery event at North Bondi this weekend.
- Hoyts Drive-In and Hoyts Theatre in Baylis Street were forced to cancel screenings because of a weekend State-wide strike by members of the Theatrical and Amusement Employees Association.
- Wagga Pistol Club Secretary, Bruce Tutty is ranked among the top shots in Australia following his aggregate win at the Murray-Goulburn Pistol Championships at Echuca.
- Almost 70 people have applied for positions at the new Coles supermarket in Gurwood Street much to the surprise of store manager Mr B Buddeke.
- Miss Pam Bromham, 17, is the latest entrant in the M.R.L. Miss Rugby League competition.
- Vandals destroyed plants valued at more than $300 in a glass house at the Wagga Botanic Gardens.
- Wagga businessman, Mr Jack Skeers claimed that some Riverina plumbers were exploiting “child labour” with false apprenticeships.
- Bob Hartwig from G.M.H. dealers, B. G. Hartwig presented new vehicles to Kapooka Military Camp and Trinity High School for use in driver training courses.
- Huthwaites are selling John Brown, men’s summer knitted shirts for $5.95.
- Phil Englebrecht and John Nesbitt from Wagga Lions Club presented 13 chairs to be used at the Edith Sundstrom Hall at Oura Reserve to Mr R A Johnson representing the Wagga District Scouting Association.
- More than 150 people attended the opening of the Wagga Art Society members exhibition, “Long Summer” prepared by Alf Morris.
- Permewan Food Stores in Baylis Street and Turvey Tops are selling Campbell’s Tomato Soup 15½ oz for 18 cents, Kinkara tea 1 lb for 49 cents and 2 lb packets of flour for 17 cents.
