- Mayor, Peter Dale met with state Premier, Bob Carr with the Premier agreeing that recent restructuring within several key State Government departments “could have been handled better”.
- Wagga police patrol commander, Inspector Neville Tarleton, told Wagga’s Community Consultative Committee that closed circuit surveillance television was a proven crime-stopper.
- One of Wagga’s oldest buildings, Hunters, is being offered for sale by owners, Frank Barrett, and Neville Harvey with an asking price of $765,000.
- Wagga policeman, Todd Sweeney, carried the torch with the eternal Olympic flame in Atlanta just days before the opening of the 1996 Olympic Games.
- Figures released by the Department of Local Government showed that Wagga City Council levied an average rate of $428.74 per residential assessment which was $50.65 less than the average rate charged by other “Category 7” councils which included Albury, Dubbo, Tamworth, and Orange.
- Wagga sound engineer, Pat Combs is flying to Nanjing, China to install public address, music, and sound effect systems in a giant, four storeys high, new aquarium in the city.
- Murrumbidgee Daily Products (MDP) marketing manager, Adrianna Summers said the recent launch of Vanilla Malt Moove flavoured milk had contributed to an increase in milk sales.
- Geoff Gelding, Frank O’Dwyer, David Benn and Michael O’Reilly met at the Riverine Club to plan for next year’s Golden Oldies cricket to be played in Wagga.

- Miss Australia, Suzan Haward was welcomed to Wagga by Deputy Mayor, Kay Hull as part of her NSW Country Tour and met with Miss Wagga entrants at the Council Chambers.
- Stage three of extensions to the Wagga Christian College were opened.
- David Smith, John Treloar, Jamin Forbes and Brad Kahlefeldt are all representing Wagga at the World duathlon championships in Italy.
- Michaelia Robinson, Danielle Jaques and Joshua Kennedy are competing in the national all school’s cross-country championships.
- Shaun Budd won the Wagga Coca-Cola Classic 8-Ball Championship at the Home Tavern Hotel.

- The first funeral to Wagga’s new lawn cemetery was held for Mr William (Ted) Bowen with the Venerable K. A. Osborne officiating, Colin White from the RSL reciting the Ode and Charles Merrett sounding the “Last Post” and “Reveille”.
- Wagga barbers have decided not to increase the basic cost of haircuts which will remain at $1 for a men’s ordinary haircut or $1.20 for a men’s style cut (including long hair).
- Stephen Grant from Christian Brothers and Geoff Dalgleish from Wagga High School were presented with best and fairest trophies for the 1971 Scott Shield series by Wagga Leagues Club president, Arthur Dixon.
- Wagga City Council’s Industrial Promotion Officer, Mr J MacManamon, speaking from a Decentralisation seminar at Sydney’s Wentworth Hotel said that eight Sydney firms had expressed interest in decentralising to Wagga.
- An initial intake of 40 patients is moving into the new geriatric wing at the Haven Old Peoples Home.
- 1st Wagga Scouts held a car wash in Woolworth’s car park to round off Scout Job Week.
- The Wagga Women’s Bowling Club held its president’s day event.
- The Kurrajong Sheltered Workshop for Intellectually Handicapped persons is extending its waste paper collection to cover the whole of Wagga.
- About 300 guests including former Miss Wagga, Dawn Lowe, attended a very successful commercial Club ball.
- Suzanne Staines, Julie Chapman, Susan McKenzie, Jill Dawson, Kerry Lucas, and Dawn Schadel are finalists in this years Miss Leroy Quest conducted annually by Huthwaites.
- Dr F G Swain has been appointed Dean of the School of Applied Sciences at the Riverina College of Advanced Education in Wagga.
- Ingrid Haupt is the latest entrant in this year’s Miss Wagga Quest.
- Mayor, Alderman M Gissing officially opened “Towntalk” a one-day conference attended by 80 citizens to consider Wagga past, present and future with implications for this future growth.
- Huthwaites are selling 16oz packets of salted peanuts for 36 cents, “Ume” pork sausages for 30 cents a lb and Campbell’s 1 lb tins of baked beans or spaghetti for 14 cents.
