- Wagga patrol commander, Chief Inspector Kevin Wales told Wagga’s Community Consultative Committee that crime had soared to record levels in the month of June.
- Chief Inspector Wales said that many crimes are drug related with marijuana a major problem.
- Wagga businessman Tom Hillis released a report from the Wagga Community Consultative Committee which found that the judicial system “failed to address the rights of innocent victims of crime on many occasions”.
- Wagga accommodation room occupancy rates have slumped 10% while occupancy rates have surged 12% across New South Wales in the last quarter.
- Wagga Trades and Labor Council held an information rally outside Wagga’s Medicare Office in Baylis Street to raise community awareness of bulk billing for medical services.
- Wagga’s Inner Wheel Club held its changeover dinner at the Leagues Club with Marie Wood taking over as president from Eileen Gamble.
- Friends and colleagues of John Beck gathered at the Leagues Club to celebrate his 25-year career with Dalco Agencies.
- Well-known Wagga businessman, Ken Duff, 80, died at Calvary Hospital after a long illness.

- Sen. Const. Ken Perkins described a car smash in which two young Wagga girls were killed near Tarcutta as the worst he had ever seen.
- Many of the Civic Theatre audience walked out in protest after Wagga group “Nana’s Passion Poem” were announced as winners of the Wagga heat of the National Battle of the Sounds.
- The floor of a dormitory building being transported from the Teachers College to a new St Vincent de Paul camp at San Isadore cracked causing the building to drop onto the road and a delay of over an hour for the transporter, Mr Ron Smith.
- A second Rostrum Club is being formed which will meet at the John Macarthur Hotel with Joe Mason-Cox as president, Bob Quigley as secretary and Leigh Colleen as Treasurer.
- Trinity High School Rugby League captain, Lionel Shinn accepted the Hardy Shield after clinching the shield from Wagga High and Mt Austin High, defeating Mt Austin 16-0 this week.
- Mrs Diana Alexandre is congratulated by the judge, Mrs Phoebe Price after winning the public speaking prize at the CWA Younger Set’s regional conference in Wagga.
- Bob Nye works manager for P F Riedell and Sons is pictured in the Daily Advertiser with the last rolls of meat produced by the firm as it closed this week.
- A youth who drove at 65mph in a 35mph zone on the Sturt Highway was fined $60 by Mr P Smith SM while another was fined $8 for not displaying a “P” plate.
- Liquor Trades Union organiser Brian Conroy has threatened to discontinue beer supplies to the Kooringal and Imperial Hotels over a dispute relating to the employment of union labour.
- President of Wagga Lions Club, Mr J Wilson said the Club is showing an active interest in several projects for the coming Wagga Centenary celebrations.
- Wagga City Council Engineer, Mr C Knott said storm water has been entering sewerage systems causing problems in treatment of the sewage.
- Wagga teachers voted overwhelmingly against another one-day strike later this year.
