Bert Hinkler lands at Wagga Showground 1928

On 17th March 1928 thousands flocked to the Wagga showground when pioneer aviator, Bert Hinkler, landed his biplane at Kyeamba Smith Hall, where he was greeted by mayor, WF Day and Town Clerk R Emblem.

Not long before this Hinkler had flown the first solo flight between England and Australia, departing England on 7 February 1928 and arriving in Darwin on 22 February 1928. He had reduced the England-Australia record from 28 days to just under 15½ days.
