- St Johns Anglican Church was filled to overflowing as hundreds of mourners farewelled Jack Skeers who local member Joe Schipp described to the congregation as a “little man with a big engine”.
- Michael Glazier, an 11-year-old student from Turvey Park Public School recently won the Wagga Road Safety Quiz and was presented with his prize by the school principal, Peter Lloyd.
- Wagga’s Community Consultative Committee will invite Police Minister Garry West to inspect the Wagga Police Station which was described by a senior officer this week as “the worst he has ever seen”.
- A meeting of the new board of Tourism Wagga Wagga was described as an absolute success by chairwoman, Councillor Kay Hull.
- South Wagga Apex Club president said that the Club would assist Riding for the Disabled to raise funds over the next 12 months.
- An ambitious $1 million appeal has been launched to raise funds for the extension of St Martin’s Residential College at Charles Sturt University.
- Stage three of Calvary Hospital’s redevelopment plan was officially opened by Little Company of Mary province leader, Sister Jennifer Barrow and blessed by Bishop William Brennan.
- Wagga pair Penni Murphy and Brooke Frauenfelder have been selected in the NSW under 19 softball team to contest the Australian Championship in Perth.
- Wagga Tigers presented awards at a premiership banquet held in their clubrooms. The best and fairest award was won by Terry Daniher.
- Rotaract member Cameron Burgmann presented a cheque to Gay Karas of the Wagga Asthma Foundation.
- The first Volunteer Rescue Association conference to be held outside of Sydney was opened at the Wagga RSL Club by the Minister for Emergency Management, Garry West.
- The Riverina Hotel has renewed its sponsorship deal with South Wagga Cricket Club with hotel manager Anthony Gaynor presenting a cheque to club president, Peter Timothy.

- Wagga Show Secretary, Bill Lampe said that more than 39,000 people attended this year’s Show, about 500 more than last year.
- Ken Purvis who has run the Canteen at Kapooka Army base sine 1964 was farewelled at the Wagga Leagues Club before relocating to Queensland.
- More than 400 dogs were exhibited at the Wagga All Breeds Kennel Club Championship Dog Show.
- The Swan Bakery established by Mr. and Mrs. H J McMahon 16 years ago has moved into a new, modern shop and factory in Fitzmaurice Street.
- Mackenna’s Gold starring Gregory Peck and Omar Sharif is screening for the first time in Wagga at Hoyts Drive-In.
- Wagga Fire Chief, Laurie Gallagher has issued a warning about burning off following a grass fire on Willans Hill, the first blaze within the city limits since last summer.
- A barman who crashed his car into another vehicle being pushed by two men was fined $120 in the Wagga Court of Petty Sessions for driving under the influence.
- The seventh annual Henty Field Days were held over 2 days with 900 people attending on the first day.
- Manager John Allen welcomed several dignitaries to the opening of new premises for Riverina Machinery in Dobney Avenue.
- Mrs. E J Slocum an 84-year-old widow made a gift of $4000 to the new Riverina College of Advanced Education in memory of her late husband, Mr. Arthur Riverina Slocum.
- A new dormitory block and dining room are nearing completion at the Wagga Agricultural College.
- Garry Templeton celebrated his 21st birthday at a party organised by his parents at the Old RSL Hall.
- Paterson’s Wagga store has “big nursery values” including a car seat for $9.95, highchairs from $12.50 and a “Fantasy” stroller for $29.95.
- Turvey Tavern soundly defeated Riverina in the Wagga Dart Association semi-final.
