- A Wagga City Council strategy adopted in the mid-1970s to plan for a population of more than 100,000 is undergoing a major review.
- Wagga’s Community Consultative Committee was told that 285 crimes were committed in the Wagga Police patrol during April compared to 193 in March.
- Leading figure in the country NSW newspaper industry and former group general manager of the Daily Advertiser, John Jackson has died in Wagga at the age of 65.
- A large crowd of more than 100 people attended the auction by Peter Davies Real Estate of a Federation style home at 66 The Esplanade which sold for $132,000.
- Thirty women attended a reunion of former students who attended the Wagga Grammar School which operated in Wagga between 1915 and 1946.
- Development manager Cathie Smith said the Kurrajong Waratah Fair held at the Kyeamba Smith Hall was the most successful day in the events seven-year history.
- The Southwest breast screening program based at Calvary Hospital is extending its operations with a unit to be established in Albury.

- John Davidson and Clarrie Inglis were victorious pairs winners in the Wagga and District Bowling Association State event held at South Wagga Bowling Club.
- The death has occurred in Sydney of former Wagga radio personality Noel Battye.
- Elsie Rosler was the centre of attention at the Wendy Hucker Nursing Home when many friends and relatives helped her to celebrate her 100th birthday.
- Opening batsman, Steve Stapleton and right arm paceman Trevor Howard won the major prizes at Lake Albert Cricket Clubs presentations.

- Daisy’s All-Night-Café, owned in partnership by Mrs. Daisy Nicholls and her husband Peter, has opened in Dobney Avenue.
- Tourist Officer Mrs E Heard revealed that more than 1700 tourists had used the Wagga Visitors Centre so far this year.
- Millionaire Frank Duval won his third successive Wagga Gold Cup this year with “Chanel”.
- Jockey George Moore’s mount “Dawn’s Pride” which started as an equal favourite with “Benakin” was a disappointing fourth in the Cup.
- More than 700 people attended the annual Catholic Debutante Ball at the Kyeamba Smith Hall with Bishop F P Carroll receiving 49 debutantes.
- Mr Doug Simpson and his wife Mrs May Simpson were both awarded life membership of the Wagga Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club.
- Geoff Belling and Janet Anthony, both 15-year-old students at Wagga High School won this year’s Wagga RSL Anzac Day essay competition.
- Turvey Park Rugby League Club won the Maher Cup from West Wyalong.
- Ashton’s Circus with the big Tommy Hanlon is in town with concession vouchers available from David Jones.
- Minister for Education, Mr Cutler has approved $560,000 extensions to the Wagga Teachers College.
- Large 24 oz packets of Weet-Bix are 26 cents and Edgell Tomato Soup 16oz are 12 cents each at G&G Discount Centres.
- Black Swan Hotel defeated Advance Hotel to win the Grace Leggett Memorial trophy in the Wagga Darts Association knockout carnival.
- Wagga school boys Kerry Gallagher, Ross Wilson, Warren Sheather and Paul Hewson have been selected to play in the NSW State ANF Carnival in Newcastle.
