- Patients who would normally remain in hospital for observation overnight are being turned away as winter chills cause an increase in admissions at Wagga Base Hospital.
- Wes Russell, outgoing president of South Wagga Lions Club handed the club’s gavel and bell to new president, John Phillips while zone chairman Terry Heazlewood looked on.
- Geoff (81) and Hilda (83) Dale are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary having been married 60 years ago at St Catherine’s Church, Horwich, in Lancashire, England. (Note: Mr Geoff Dale was wrongly referred to as George Dale in the Daily Advertiser article 25 years ago).
- Wagga’s oldest practicing solicitor, Galva Nitschke has left the firm of Sheekey Williams and Nitschke to take up a position at Denniston and Day.
- Ansett Riverina manager, Glen Vardanega is leaving Ansett after 25 years’ service as Kendell Airlines prepares to take over the Wagga-Sydney air service.
- Lance Thompson who operated Wagga’s Austin/Morris dealership, All Cars in partnership with Charlie Hartwig, for more than 40 years, has died aged 88.
- Heather Bell’s latest art exhibition opens this week at Riverina Galleries.
- Riverina district Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Eric Gollan is pictured in the Daily Advertiser dressed in ceremonial uniform with his wife Anne at the Wagga Emergency Services Ball at the Kyeamba Smith Hall.
- Brooke Frauenfelder won a bronze medal as a member of the Australian under 19s softball team playing in the recent world series in the United States.

- World Champion snooker player Eddie Charlton is playing this week at the Home Tavern.
- Wagga Technology High School student, Taryn Gollasch, 16, has won the Riverina final of the Australian Plain-Speaking Award.
- A Wagga Touch Association team has won the NSW Country Under 20 women’s title.
- Rick’s Clothing Company in Baylis Street is having a School Holiday, all stock, less 20% sale.
- Teenager, Kylie O’Connor is Wagga’s first netballer to be selected at any age level in the NSW State team.
- Wagga’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has ordained 44-year-old Stephen Ward as its new president.
50 Years Ago
- Payment of a proposed allowance of up to $500 per annum to Wagga City Council aldermen could result in the resignation of at least two aldermen known to be strongly opposed to it.
- Immediate past president, Dick Siebels handed the club charter to incoming president, Phil Engelbrecht at the Wagga Lions Club annual changeover dinner held at Romano’s Hotel.
- Mr and Mrs Tom Potts, Mr and Mrs O’Shea and Mr and Mrs B Stuart were amongst those attending the Wagga Jaycees Tax Dodgers Ball at the Police Boys Club.
- Plans for establishment of a crematorium at Wagga Cemetery advanced with Council accepting a tender for installation of a furnace and calling for tenders for the main building.
- The annual meeting of the Wagga and District Bowling Association re-elected Wal Blake as president for his third term.
- Wagga City Council referred complaints of overcrowding on school buses to the Street and Traffic Inspector, Mr Aub Hale.
- Admission charges to Wagga City Baths will remain unaltered at 20 cents for adults and 5 cents for children in the 1970-71 swimming season.
- A special committee, the brainchild of Wagga businessman Jack Skeers, has been formed to promote Wagga as the “number one” centre for selective decentralisation.
- Mark Pumpa, Bob Condon, Ron Haste and John Kennedy are pictured in the Daily Advertiser attending the opening of the Tax Office in Wagga.
- Christian Brothers High School retained the Hardy Shield with a 40-0 win over Mt Austin High School at Weissel Oval.
- David Jones Food Hall is selling Arnotts Nice or Milk Arrowroot biscuits for 19 cents, Snowmaid Peas 16oz for 14 cents and Smoked Salmon for 65 cents per lb.
- Sixty debutantes are attending the Riverina Debutante of the Year Ball to be opened by Wal Fife, member for Wagga and Minister for Mines at the Police Boy’s Club.
- Over two sessions, five hundred patrons in the afternoon and seven hundred in the evening saw Wagga group “Collection” win the 2WG “Battle of Sounds” in the Kyeamba Smith Hall.
- Melanie Byrnes, a fourth form student at Mt Erin High School won the Wagga Interschool Public Speaking Competition.
- Mrs Betty Kelynack was re-elected president of the Wagga Women’s Branch of the NSW Liberal Party.
