- Senior Wagga weatherman, Noel Stair announced that 1997 calendars produced by the Commonwealth Bureau of Meteorology are now available.
- Calvary Hospital chief executive officer, Ted Coupe said that work on Calvary’s cutting-edge cardiovascular investigation and treatment service should begin next week.
- Bernie Doyle and Colin Lee were presented with badges recognising 100 or more blood donations which they have each made at the Wagga Blood Bank.
- Sergeant Steve Ross, is pictured in the Daily Advertiser, inspecting weapons surrendered by gun owners as part of the Federal Government’s buy-back scheme.
- Miss Wagga Janene Manwaring is supporting this years Motorcycle Toy Run with about 100 motorcyclists collecting toys for The Smith Family, St Vincent de Paul, and the Salvation Army.
- A record number of over 1,000 people have enrolled in 64 Summer Courses being offered by CSU’s Open Learning Institute.
- Lex Marinos returned to Wagga to help RTC launch its 1997 season.
- Award winning winemaker and enterprise manager Rodney Hooper has resigned after seven years with the Charles Sturt University Winery.

- Associate Professor Jim Pratley launched a book of poetry called The Olive Grove, written by Mark Brennan, illustrated by Rob Harris, and inspired by the more than 400 olive trees around the CSU winery and Booranga Writers Centre.
- Ashmont Public School celebrated its 30th anniversary with a traditional cake cutting by principal, Wes Cooney and P&C Association secretary, Carolyn Draper.
- A Wagga man was jailed for a total of 12 months when he appeared in Wagga Local Court on his ninth and tenth convictions for driving while disqualified.
- Helen Wimmer, Susie McTackett, Peggy Bailey, Jody Nisbet and Alison Jaszczyk are Wagga Volleyball Association women’s division one grand finalists.
- Wagga City League Women’s Bowling Club major single award was won by Lorna Waygood.
- The Old Wagga Inn is advertising a 5-course traditional Christmas lunch for $49.50 per adult.

- Wagga City Council will employ a full-time beach inspector and lifesaver at Wagga Beach this summer as the Beach Lifesaving Club is unable to commit to patrols this year.
- Judging has been completed for the Miss Wagga Quest with the results placed in sealed envelopes until the winner is named at a New Year’s Eve carnival.
- Aub Loch played the first ball after officially opening the green named in his honour at the South Wagga Bowling Club.
- Thelma O’Reilly, a member since 1930 was made the first associate life member of the Wagga Golf Club.
- Watched on by Blood Bank Sister-in-Charge, Sister McFadyen, Mayoress, Mrs M Gissing presented badges to 40 blood donors, who have given 25 pints or more, including her husband, the Mayor, Ald M Gissing.
- Superintendent of Wagga Police, Supt. R A B Allen said that radar speed traps like those operating in metropolitan areas would be introduced to the Riverina soon.
- Wagga’s Peter Dewey was among orthopaedic surgeons attending a weekend conference of orthopaedic surgeons held in Wagga over the weekend.
- Bill Cooper was elected president of the Farrer League club with Boyden Lewis as secretary, John Bance, assistant secretary, Dennis Leslie, Treasurer and Milton Breust as public relations officer.
- Member for Wagga and Minister for Mines and Conservation, Wal Fife addressed a Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Commercial Club.
- Famous footballer, Eric Weissel, who has been in retirement, will act as advisory coach to Wagga Police Boys Club teams next year.
- South Wagga Public School principal, Mr E K Doyle said that the extreme long hair cult was a symbol of a sub-culture which should be eradicated.
- Mr L G Reberger was re-elected as president of the Wagga Horticultural Society for his eight term.
- Ian Dudley, Robert Dominguez, Owen Gardner, Justin Cogger and Lloyd Dunstan took part in an international fencing competition at Parramatta with Robert Dominguez winning the minor competition finals.
