- Mayor, Pat Brassil handed a dollar coin to Wagga and District Horse Facilities Council Chairman, Gary Hiscock in exchange for the “deeds” to the Equex Exhibition Centre in Kooringal Road.
- Talks were held between the Wagga Leagues Club and Wagga City Bowling Club on the proposed relocation of the Bowling Club and establishment of new bowling greens adjacent to Eric Weissel Oval.
- Council has approved construction of four transportable classrooms on St Michael’s Regional High School handball court to accommodate students moving back to the Church Street site from the nearby St Joseph’s Primary School.
- Stan Sadleir has been re-elected president of the Wagga RSL Club with Bill Ellis re-elected vice-president.
- Member for Riverina, Noel Hicks joined Bishop William Brennan, Father John Shanahan and Centacare executive director Kerry Brettell for the official opening of Centacare’s new premises in Tarcutta Street.
- Mayor Pat Brassil was elected to the Local Government Association’s country executive.
- In a sequel to Wagga City Council’s decision to pay the Wagga Showground rates, the Wagga Leagues Club is now seeking rate exemptions for Eric Weissel and Allan Staunton ovals.
- About 270 members turned up at the Commercial Club annual general meeting which saw John Gray elected unopposed as president following the retirement of Ron Hall after 13 years as president.
- Wagga consultant general physician and cardiologist, Ian Smee is the first rural physician to be elected as a councillor of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.
- Wagga’s first fully accredited Volunteers in Policing, Ellen and Matthew Treston have received their certificates of accreditation and will take up work soon with the Wagga police patrol.
- Rose judge, Tom Woods was impressed with the quality of entries in the Saint Aidan’s Presbyterian Church Spring Flower Show.
- Councillors Bob Osborne and Colin Rush were re-elected as chairman and deputy chairman of the management board of Southern Riverina Electricity and Water.
- Brian Lawrence has been re-elected Wagga Leagues Club president with vice-presidents and fellow life members Ted Power and David Hand also re-elected.
- After 21 years at Wagga’s St Michael’s Regional High School, Brother Joseph Felix O’Connor, aged 87, is being transferred to Sydney because of health facilities available to him there.
- Woolworth’s are selling Devondale butter, 250g for 59 cents, frozen peas, 500g for 89 cents and Four and Twenty frozen meat pies, four for $2.49.

- Bus service proprietor, Mr Clive Fearne, has called on police and school principals to help fight a staggering outbreak of vandalism on school buses.
- South Wagga Apex Club presented $548 to the 2WG Old Peoples Home Trust towards their new nursing home project.
- A drive-in bottle department has been introduced to the Union Club Hotel by owner Mr Charles Pelc.
- Medical Officer, Dr D J Law said that Gissing House, the TB clinic at Wagga Base Hospital, was likely to become part of general ward facilities at Wagga Base Hospital with Albury Base Hospital becoming the tuberculosis treatment centre for the Riverina.
- Mr G Potter, Headmaster at Kooringal Primary School said that the annual school fete had made a record profit of $1750.
- Mr K Buntain trustee of the Haven said that 350 people were attending the Haven Charity Premiere at the Plaza Theatre.
- Retail giant, Myers Ltd, is expected to pay $500,000 for a prime three-acre development site in the business heart of Wagga.

- The Wagga School of Arts production, “Dark of the Moon” opened this week at the Civic Theatre.
- Three homes in Bardia Street are to be made available for the State Government’s regional development and Decentralisation programs.
- Mr Lindsay Carr, secretary of the Murrumbidgee Turf Club who succeeded the late Bill Whiting, 13 years ago has accepted a position as secretary of the Mornington Racing Club.
- Wagga Fire Brigade has taken delivery of a 4.2 litre Jaguar fire engine built on a Dennis chassis.
- Treasurer, Mr Frank Cook said that more than $6800 had been donated in this year’s Legacy appeal.
- Cracksmen made an unsuccessful early morning attempt to blow a safe at the Duke of Kent Hotel.
- The Interact Club at Wagga’s Trinity High School has presented a cheque for $50 to Mr G Hull representing the Wagga Inter-Church Action Group.
