- More than 9000 spectators and 800 marchers took part in this years Anzac Day parade which was led by 50 civilians who had participated in the 1939-45 war effort.
- Members of the HMAS Wagga Association attended a memorial service and anchor unveiling at the Victory Memorial Gardens.
- Murrumbidgee Turf Club president, Murdoch McLennan was infuriated by an order from health officials instructing Wagga shop owners to tear down posters promoting next week’s Wagga Gold Cup which are claimed to contravene the Tobacco Advertising Prohibition Act.
- Mrs Kath Toy who with her husband Cec Toy jointly owned and operated the Australian Hotel later converted to the Australian Arcade has died at the age of 88.
- Wagga City Council community services manager, Neil Stubbs has been appointed as chief executive officer of the Forrest Centre replacing Ted Coupe who has resigned to take up the position of CEO at Calvary Hospital.
- Wagga Motors and the Braid family are celebrating their 45th anniversary as a General Motors dealer in Wagga.
- Rose Organ and Robyn Davis are conducting Dressmaking Classes suitable for beginners and advanced sewers.
- Peter McKinnon from The Clef Retravision which has been located for more than 30 years in Baylis Street has announced plans to relocate to the Riverina Plaza.
- University Chancellor, David Asimus AO and Chairman of the CSU Foundation, Wal Fife were among speakers at CSU’s third Riverina Foundation Scholarship ceremony.
- Wagga City Council is conducting a free children’s immunisation clinic in Baylis Street outside Woolworths.
- The 1996 Miss Wagga Quest which has attracted eight entrants was launched at a glittering ceremony in Wagga’s Civic Gardens.
- Olsen and Sons which was opened in Wagga’s in 1927 by Lance Olsen and more recently owned by his grandson Jim Olsen have closed with about 50 buyers gathering in Invermay Lane for a clearing sale.
- A group of women co-ordinated by Serena Griggs marched and handed out flowers in the main street in support of National Stop Violence Against Women Day.

- A big crowd including many young people watched the Anzac Day March as it passed down Baylis Street to the Cenotaph.
- The Community Advancement Fund held a cocktail party for potential Miss Wagga candidates. Committee members, Brian Hewitt, Don Kendell, Warwick Tomkins and Peter Duff are pictured in the Daily Advertiser with potential candidate Miss Victoria Brown.
- Tim Fischer, a Boree Creek farmer who served as a National Service officer in Vietnam is seeking Country Party endorsement for the seat of Sturt.
- Spokesman, Joe MacManamon said that work would start soon on Wagga’s sheltered workshop to be known as Waratah House.
- Minister for Mines and Member for Wagga, Mr Wal Fife has convened a meeting to discuss the control of Lake Albert.
- Warrant Officer John Fitzgerald who was killed earlier this month in Vietnam was given full military honours for his funeral at St Michael’s Cathedral and burial at Wagga Cemetery.
- For the first time ever Combined, Catholic High Schools won all three major shields at the annual Wagga Inter-High Schools’ athletic championships.
- Trinity School Sports captains, Brendan Lindsay and Rosemary Novak are pictured in the Daily Advertiser displaying the ANZ Bank Shield to Christian Brothers athletic coach, Graham Kennedy and Bishop of Wagga, Bishop F P Carroll.
- Huthwaite’s are selling Grosby Ladies’ slippers for Mother’s Day in all sizes for $1.99.
- The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association held a successful mannequin parade at Romano’s Coffee Lounge.
- Rex Stewart Motors in Station Place is advertising several vehicles including a 1966 Morris 1100 sedan for $995 or approximately $7.00 per week and a 1964 Falcon Utility for $595 or approximately $6.00 per week.
- Mr Jim Stockton, one of the best-known stockmen and drovers in the Wagga District has died in Wagga Base Hospital.
- More than 600 mice have been trapped at Forest Hill School in recent weeks.
- Avor Quality Products announced that from 31st May no deposits would be refunded on any of their bottles.
- The Wagga Junior Men’s Hockey Association conducted its first-ever carnival at the Duke of Kent Park.
