- Wagga’s Mayor, Pat Brassil was elected chairman of the powerful Country Mayor’s Association.
- Member for Wagga, Joe Schipp MP said Wagga could have its long-awaited new police station in three years if appeals by the Minister for Police, Terry Griffiths, to the Premier and Treasurer were successful.
- Paul Rumble from Broken Hill has been appointed to succeed Brother Carl Sherrin as principal at Trinity Senior High School and Peter Dewhirst from Wellington appointed to succeed Graham Kennedy as principal at St Michael’s High School.
- A petty criminal and repeat offender jailed for 18 months in Wagga Court was denied bail after an appeal was made to the Magistrate.
- Former Wagga Police Citizens Youth Club secretary-manager, Pat Kain, is among those attending a reunion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the club.
- Well-known businessman, Peter Davies expressed his “disgust” at the spate of break and enters that have rocked Wagga’s business community this month.
- Wagga Base Hospital Chairman, Harry Hutton said the Hospital’s Board is planning a fund-raising project to raise funds to provide a higher quality care for patients.

- Member for Wagga, Wal Fife officially switched on the new traffic lights on the corner of Edward and Baylis Street.
- Mr. Fife revealed that Wagga had the highest number of road deaths of any country centre with 12 people killed last year, six more than in Albury.
- Mrs. M Carmody presented a cheque for $310 on behalf of the Magpie’s Recreation Club and the Sportsman’s Club Hotel to Sister M Malachy for the Home of Compassion building fund.
- Some secondary school students had arrived late for recent examinations because their bus was delayed when stock blocked traffic across the Hampden Bridge.
- Almost 100 young people from Presbyterian and Methodist Church Fellowships and the Smith Family Younger set are door knocking Wagga homes seeking tinned food donations for Wagga’s Community Food Drive to aid needy Wagga Families.
- Tom Sumsky defeated Geoff Stacey but was in turn defeated by Warren Smith in the single wicket cricket tournament at Robertson Oval.
- Bishop of Wagga, the Most Rev. F P Carroll was a special guest at the first Trinity Senior High School Graduation Ball held at the Police Boys Club and attended by 450 people.
- Dr. Neil Benjamin unveiled a plaque naming a South Wagga Bowling Club Green in his honour in the presence of Wal Blake, Wagga Association president, Alec Cross, South Wagga president, Aub Loch, club patron, and other officials.
- A number of Wagga Abattoir employees have been receiving only two or three days work a week as a result of a very low number of livestock submitted for slaughter.

- Secretary of the Christ in Christmas committee, Colin Baker said that unless the committee received immediate financial assistance there would be no Nativity Scene in the Wagga Memorial Gardens this year.
