- Ron Hall has not sought re-election to the Commercial Club board after joining the club 34 years ago and serving as a director for 25 years including several years as club president.
- Donna Goodwin, clinical nurse specialist in emergency service at Wagga Base Hospital has been named New South Wales Emergency Nurse of the Year.
- “Scrambler” traffic lights allowing pedestrians to cross diagonally will be installed soon at the intersection of Baylis and Morgan Streets.
- Darren Coggan’s debut single, “The Dream Remains The Same” has reached the Top 10 in the Australian Country Music Charts.
- More than 200 Catholic school teachers marched on McAlroy House demanding parity with other teachers.
- Yabtree Street residents are outraged by a proposal to place a syringe and condom vending machine at the rear of the Greater Murray Health Service’s alcohol, drugs and sexual health support centre located in Yabtree Street.
- Wagga Tigers best and fairest award winners were David Brown (reserve grade), Steven Priest (first grade) and Aaron DeJong (under 18’s).
- Twenty-four elderly residents face an uncertain future following an announcement that the Golden Valley Nursing Home in Gurwood Street is to close on 30th November.
- Mt Austin High School held a farewell for its Year 12 students at the RSL Club.
- Riverina Rugby Union president, Stuart Hodgson presented an autographed Wallabies jumper to Romanos Hotel publican, Peter Bolton, and Mark Bolton for their sponsorship of Riverina Rugby.
- Eight workers were sacked on the spot and two dozen women and children left without crisis accommodation following the sudden closure of the Wagga Women’s Refuge.
- Noted local historian, Sylvia Walsh has died at the age of 85.
- Daily Advertiser journalist, Faye Brinsmead has been chosen to join a Rotary Group Study Exchange Team travelling to South Korea.
- Trinity Senior High School board chairman, John Egan, presented Alison Smith with the Schools Nicholas Sampson Award for outstanding improvement.
- Turvey Park rugby league club major award winners were Dave Skinner (best forward), Brett Wilson (best and fairest), Scott Woodhouse (best back) and Shane Matthews (rookie of the year).
- Festival of Wagga 1996 president, Mark Hillis, says the festival will have “something for everybody”.
- John Farnham performed at the Wagga Music Bowl.

- Ald. Aub Loch was elected chairman of the Southern Riverina County Council, succeeding former alderman, Mr R L Brunskill who did not seek re-election.
- Police are investigating a theory that a fire at Ashmont Public School was started deliberately.
- The new Mount Erin prefect body is pictured in the Daily Advertiser with school principal, Sister Benedicta.
- At the Kangaroos’ premiership dinner, vice-president, Lloyd Elliott was presented with the best Clubman trophy by the trophy donor, Bob Ashton.
- Thieves stole cash and cheques totalling between $300 and $400 from a strongroom at St. John’s Church of England.
- Mr H N Wrigley has been appointed as regional information officer for the Soil Conservation Service at Wagga.
- Papp’s and Brown Chemists on the corner of Fitzmaurice and Gurwood Streets announced that they are now open 9 am to 7 pm, seven days a week.
- Wagga’s new Clerk of Petty Sessions is Mr G L Jones, succeeding Mr Keith Inglis who has retired.
- Lewis Butcher, Philip Osbeiston and Perry Hindmarsh were among students sitting the English exam at Wagga High School which was the first Higher School Certificate paper this year.
- David Sullivan celebrated his 21st birthday with a dinner dance at the Wagga Commercial Club.
- More than $2000 was raised at the Kooringal Primary School fete.
- More than 100 Rover scouts from two states attended the Riverina Rover Moot at Mr Bevan Lucas’s Borambola property, “Bidgee Bend”.
- Wagga service personnel from Kapooka and Forest Hill settled in at the new Wagga Services Rest and Recreation Club in Forsyth Street.
- A UNICEF charity night was held at Hoyts Theatre, Wagga to raise money for the world’s underprivileged children.
