- South Wagga Post Office is closing this week to be relocated to the new post shop in the Baylis Centre on the other side of Baylis Street.
- Popular Wagga surgeon, Peter Macneil has resigned his position as visiting medical officer at Wagga Base Hospital citing his 65th birthday in a few weeks and a busy schedule as reasons for his decision.
- Well-known Wagga Leagues Club identity and former Wagga policeman, Bruce Piercy will replace Arthur Summons after 30 years as Wagga Leagues Club Secretary-Manager.
- The NSW committee on abuse of older people in their homes, which includes local CSU lecturer Peter Dunn, is holding a two-day seminar in Wagga to explain its three-year plan.
- A major environmental forum held at Charles Sturt University has called for the elimination of the European carp from the region’s waterways.
- Council’s Planning Committee recommended that an application by Sturt Mall owners to fence along Wonderland Lane be refused.
- The committee has also recommended rezoning to medium density residential the land currently occupied by the Wagga Bowling Club which wants to sell the land and relocate to the Wagga Leagues Club.
- Wagga woman, Lisa Harvey, has been selected to attend the third International Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) conference to be held in Norway.
- Former South Wagga Public School principal, Ted Doyle, who devoted more than 20 years of his life to primary school education in Wagga has died from an asthma attack at the age of 79.
- Committal proceedings against Wagga accountant, James Albert Crowl facing fraud related charges began in Wagga Local Court.
- Following strong criticism by Councillors Joe Mason-Cox and Geoff Burch Council, has agreed to re-evaluate its criteria for the purchase of touring shows at the Civic Theatre.
- Relieved Wagga builder, David Cole recovered his ute and $20,000 worth of tools which were stolen recently.
- Council has withdrawn its objection to the transfer of a tavern licence from the John Macarthur to Choice’s Nite Spot.
- Brian Favero, Youth Chairman from South Wagga Lions Club welcomed several overseas exchange students to a Lions Changeover Dinner.

- The fluoridation of Wagga’s water supply gained final approval at this weeks Southern Riverina Council meeting.
- More than 1000 guests are expected to attend this week’s passing out parade of about 400 troops at Kapooka who made up this year’s second intake of National Servicemen.
- Miss Barbara Parkinson who works for the Wagga branch of the Rural Bank is attending a four-week bank ledger machine course in Sydney.
- Mrs Marjorie Hamill, a past president of the Wagga Quota Club will attend the fiftieth anniversary of Quota International Convention in Washing ton DC.
- Miss Wagga, Dawn Lowe was officially farewelled by Mayor Ald R J Harris for her overseas trip which will include a visit to Wagga’s sister city, Leavenworth.
- Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, Ian Gray was guest speaker at a meeting of Wagga Accountants held at Romano’s Hotel.
- White’s Shoe Stores are selling ladies casual shoes from $2.50, men’s work shoes from $4.99 and felt slippers from just $1.10.
- 11-year-old Wagga dancer, Kim Hardwick a pupil of Miss Beverly Waters has gained her fifth successive Honours pass in a Grade 5 examination conducted by the Royal Academy of Dancing.
- F A Delaney and Co are preparing a new car park alongside the Wagga Commercial Club for the benefit of its members.
- Norman Grinton one of the first members of Wagga Apex Club was among about 65 people attending the annual “Old Buffers” night of Wagga Apex Club held at the Leagues Club.
- Jack Skeers, President of the Wagga Auxiliary of the Royal Blind Society announced that former Wagga schoolteacher, Miss M P Edmiston had left more than $7,000 to the society in her will.
- Ald C W Toy, vice-chairman of Council’s cemetery and crematorium committee said final plans for Wagga’s proposed lawn cemetery and crematorium would be drawn up soon.
