- The failure of the State Government to appoint Wagga Mayor, Cr Pat Brassil to the new Riverina Regional Development Board hasbeen labelled “nothing short of a disgrace”.
- A ban on marriage celebrants conducting weddings in the Botanic Gardens tree chapel is to be reviewed by Wagga City Council.
- A report to Wagga City Council said that Wagga’s Hampden Bridge could be scrapped within six years if the community does not come up with a viable alternative use for it.
- Daily Advertiser editor, Michael McCormack in his newspaper column said the sooner Hampden Bridge is torn down and used for scrap materials the better.

Nancye Piercy announced three senior management appointments with Dr Paul Curtis as director of clinical services, Anne O’Donoghue, as director of nursing and Peter McLaughlin as director of operations.

- Wagga tennis coach, Roman Adamcewicz is taking 11 of the Riverina’s most promising tennis players to Sydney for a $20,000 tournament on Boxing Day.
- Kangaroos Rugby League Club
have a Christmas raffle with first prize a trip for two with Peter Sterling on the 1994 Australian Rugby League Kangaroo tour of England.
- Kelly Walker from Kooringal High School has been selected in the NSW girls Combined High Schools water polo team.
- Hazelton Airlines listed at a premium on the Australian Stock Exchange after its float closed early because it was oversubscribed.
50 Years Ago
- More than 2000 people turned out for Carols by Candlelight organised by the Wagga Christ in Christmas Campaign Committee, in the VictoryMemorial Gardens.
- Wagga had a cool Christmas this year with a maximum temperature of 68.1 degrees Fahrenheit. The highest Christmas temperature on record is 105.8 degrees Fahrenheit in 1957.
- Proceeds from the annual Legacy-Spastic Golf Day were presented to Mr Andy Ireland vice-president of Wagga Legacy and Mr Max Pontifex president of the Spastic Committee.
- Mrs N Pell,
oldest member of the Turvey Park Australian Rules Women’s Auxiliary cut the cake at their annual Christmas party held at the Senior Citizen’s Hall in Tarcutta Street.
- Six police rushed a house in North Wagga after a man believed armed with a tomahawk and an axe threatened any person entering the house.
- 4th Wagga Rovers are manning a portable tourist information centre on Bolton Park to assist visitors to Wagga.
- The Mayor, Ald R J Harris gave a civic receptionto members of the Victorian Junior Cricket Association who are playing in Wagga against sides from Wagga Leagues Club and the Wagga Cricket Association.
- Wagga RSL won the Wagga District Bowling Association’s Number Four Pennant competition defeating Junee Golf.
- Kings Own Hotel at the Rock is featuring Digger Revell and opening until 12 midnight on Christmas Eve and 2 am on New Year’s Eve.
- Wagga residents, Mr and Mrs Bill Hessie were farewelled at a fancy-dress party prior to leaving for Canberra.
