  • Outraged Wagga City councillors and senior staff are considering legal action over a letter from the Wagga Ratepayers and Citizens Association which they interpret as implying corruption in Council’s purchase of heavy equipment.
  • Charles Sturt University honoured two of the earliest pioneers in its history, Peter Hastie and Wal Fife, in a special ceremony.
  • Forty diners attended the inaugural Barter’s Wine and Food Society at Barters Restaurant together with bon vivant, Peter Madden and his wife Judith from Sydney.
  • Charles and Nell Meacham are celebrating 60 years of marriage citing friendship, co-operation and plenty of hard work as the recipe for marriage success.
  • Former long serving member of the Wagga Leagues Club and well-known sports administrator, Roy Harding has died following a long battle with cancer.

50 Years Ago

  • More than 700 people attended the annual Mt Erin High School Speech night with Bishop of Wagga, the Most Rev. F P Carroll addressing the gathering and presenting prizes.
  • Ian Bell who last year played Othello in Peter O’Shaughnessy’s production is speaking poetry and prose at the Wagga Music Club’s concert.
  • Ladies blouses for $3 and linen skirts are included in Edmondson’s 104th Birthday sale on now.
  • 200 people attended a public exhibition by the Riverina Lapidary Club at their rooms in Small Street.
  • Frederick Button, architect was the first nomination received for the upcoming Wagga City Council elections.
  • Ald Errolla Heard and former Mayor, Ald Ivan Jack have both decided against seeking re-election at the Wagga City Council poll on December 7.
  • Mrs Peberdy was made a life member and John Pratt was elected president of the Wagga District Pony Club and at the Club’s Annual General Meeting.
  • About 380 people attended the Woodstock and Goulburn PLC Old Collegians Ball at the Wagga Police Boys Club.
