- Mayor Pat Brassil held a special Mayoral reception to thank almost 40 Wagga volunteer fire fighters for their unselfish efforts during the recent NSW bush fire crisis on the South Coast and in the Blue Mountains.
- Funds raised from last year’s Mayoress Charity Concert to be used for the City of Wagga Bushfire Victims Appeal were presented to Mayor and Mayoress of Wagga, Pat and Anne Brassil by Robert Stone President of Wagga Sunrise Rotary.
- Charles Sturt University is seeking private board, houses, flats, farm houses and other types of shared accommodation for its students.
- Dr Margaret Sheldon, Chairman of the South West Mammography Screening and Assessment Service announced that a free breast screening clinic had been established at Calvary Hospital.
- Council’s Director of Engineering and Technical Services, Laurie Fromholtz said Council has prepared a flood manual to record the “accumulated knowledge of flood events….”

- Flash summer storms bought temporary relief from heatwave conditions with Wagga’s temperature dropping from 99.8 degrees to 66 degrees Fahrenheit after 35 points of rain from 1.10pm to 1.30pm.
- A 29-year-old non-swimmer was swept away, believed drowned at Oura Beach.
- Principal, Mr C J Boardman said that a day commercial course for 34 girls has been introduced for the first time at Wagga Technical College.
- Alderman R L Brunskill was re-elected chairman of the Southern Riverina County Council with Alderman C W Toy elected as deputy chairman.
- Miss Judy Sisley was entertained by Mr Paul Galloway when they dined out at the Town House Motel on Saturday night.
- RVN Channel 2 is advertising for a stenographer to work five days a week in air-conditioning with an IBM electric typewriter.
- Lights to allow night bowling have been installed at the Wagga RSL greens. Wallace Blake, Mr P Price and RSL President Stan Sadleir welcomed the new innovation.
- South Wagga Rotary Club is inviting applications for a one-year overseas study award from local technicians in fields including agriculture, medicine and automotive engineering.
- Hore and Davies are offering by auction, 5-acre blocks on Red Hill and Plumpton Roads.
- 36 riders from throughout south western NSW are attending a week-long camp at the Wagga Pony Club ground.
