- 500 boot scooters from all over New South Wales attended a five-hour dance session at the Kyeamba Smith Hall hosted by the Riverina Boot scooters and Riverina Country Line Dancers.
- Long-time editor of the Daily Advertiser, Jack Dennis also known as Wagga’s “gentleman journalist” has died, aged 83.
- Pressures of administration were cited as the reason for the sudden resignation of former Trinity Senior High School principal, Paul Rumble.
- Wagga City Councillor, Kevin Wales has distanced himself from and criticised councils’ decision to plant claret Ash trees in Fitzmaurice Street.
- Sheila Martin, born in Wagga in 1916 and named as Miss Australia in 1937 has died at the age of 80.
- What appears to be a century-old cellar was discovered during building work on the site of what used to be the Oxford Theatre in Fitzmaurice Street.
- Wagga Base Hospital nurse, Mary Ann Kelly recently returned from six months in Africa as a Red Cross nurse.
- Rev Dr John Cohen assistant priest at St Alban’s Anglican church in Lake Road is the new president of the Kooringal Rotary Club.
- More than thirty local legal practitioners attended the launch in Wagga of a new mediation kit by the Law Society of New South Wales.
- Col McPherson, president of the Australian Labor Party’s Wagga branch toured the NSW Police Service District Office with Riverina Police Commander Eric Gollan.
- Professor Cliff Blake, vice-chancellor of Charles Sturt University has been awarded the 1996 Farrer Memorial Medal with trustees most impressed by his outstanding contribution to agricultural education over the past 33 years.
- A drink driver who sooled his cattle dog on a police officer attempting to arrest him was sentenced to six months weekend detention at the Mannus Correctional Centre.
- Three times female winner of the Daily Advertiser-2WG City-to-Lake fun run, Carmel Kahlefeldt and her daughter, Rochelle are pictured in the Daily Advertiser checking times at a Wagga Road Runners meet.
- Ida Nixon celebrated her 100th birthday at the Wendy Hucker Nursing Home.

- Representatives of Wagga’s Christian churches attended the dedication of the Wagga Crematorium and Lawn Cemetery.
- Several members of the Wagga Branch of the Red Cross were presented with medals and gold service bars at their Annual General Meeting also attended by Tom Fischer, Member for Sturt and Mrs M Gissing, Wagga’s Mayoress.
- Wagga stud master, Colin Lamont has returned from a two-month world tour looking at stallions, broodmares and racecourses and is enthusiastic about the coming Australian breeding season.
- Local painting contractor, Mr Edwin Cross, father of one of Australia’s outstanding women golfers Mrs Dianna Thomas, has died at the age of 75.
- Fossey’s Department Store in Baylis Street has been sold to the Victorian Chain store company of E C Hattam.
- More than 17,000 Wagga voters are eligible to vote in the local government elections in September to fill 12 seats on the City Council.
- 370 Wagga and district police and guests attended the annual Police Ball held at the Wagga Police Citizens Boys Club.
- Mr W L Hurd, president of the Wagga Eisteddfod Society said that 1600 entries had already been received for the 51st Wagga Eisteddfod in October with a final total of 2000 expected.
- South Wagga Apex Club raised $288.34 with their “Pig in the barrel” raffle on Saturday morning.
- An airman was fined $150 in Wagga Court for taking an RAAF ambulance without permission from Forest Hill Air Force Base and driving it to Junee.
- Terry Williamson is pictured in the Daily Advertiser with former Miss Wagga, Helen Everitt attending the first anniversary celebrations of the Wagga Twenties Club at the Leagues Club.
- Bill Tipping, 21 year-year-old accounts clerk at Wagga City Council submitted two winning entries in the Daily Advertiser, $100 You Pick ‘em competition.
