- The Wagga Mayoress’ Camp Quality Charity Ball hosted by Mayoress; Barbara Dale was a great success with about $20,000 being raised for Camp Quality.
- John De La Torre has been elected as President of the Wagga Chamber of Commerce with Noel Bottrell and David Palmer as vice-presidents, Margaret O’Dwyer as secretary and David Foster as treasurer.
- More than 180 Year 10 students attended a Careers Day hosted by Wagga Rotary Clubs and 80 employers who donated their time.
- Obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Kenneth Rew has retired after 30 years of practice.
- Bush Fire Services, State Championships are being held at the Wagga Showground.
- Marketing agent, Peter Davies from The Professionals Real Estate said that work on the Waterview Gardens, $6.8 million luxury high rise units is set to begin.
- More than 100 people took part in a Wagga rally to protest cuts to ATSIC outlined in the Federal budget.
- Three visiting Rotary International ambassadorial scholars attended this week’s Murrumbidgee Turf Club race meeting and are pictured in the Daily Advertiser with MTC treasurer, Rodney Parsons.
- Wagga highway patrol has a 1995 BMW motorcycle on loan for a month but are hopeful that they will soon have a police solo-cycle of their own.
- Christopher and Wendy Whyte have produced “Wagga Wagga Wild” extra virgin Olive Oil pressed from trees in Charles Sturt University’s 100-year-old olive grove.
- The second Wagga Jazz Festival is being held at Romano’s Hotel.
- Henwood Park Hawks, midfielder, Michael Schmid, was named as the Wagga Soccer association player of the year.
- Ray Duncan, a director for the past 10 years will be presented with Wagga Leagues Club life membership at its annual meeting later this month.
- Maureen and John Swan celebrated 50 years of marriage with family and friends at the Commercial Club.

- More than 17,000 voters are eligible to vote at the Wagga Local Government elections which will elect twelve aldermen to serve for the next three years.
- Wagga’s Meals on Wheels which provides a hot three course meal five days a week for only 40 cents delivered to the door is seeking at least 10 new “subscribers” to replace those lost following the recent opening of the Nan Roberts Community at The Haven.
- Professor Manning Clarke, an historian from the Australian National University is presenting on “The Quality of Australian Life” at the Teachers College Auditorium.
- Miss Gail Miles and Mr Allan Hull of Gregadoo were among those attending the Wagga race meeting this week.
- Former deputy matron of Wagga Base Hospital, Sister Doreen Warner who retired last year after fifteen years’ service has died, aged 60.
- Miss Southwest, Miss Victoria Brown and Southwest Charity Queen, Janette Fear were crowned at the Regional Ball held at the Wagga Leagues Club.
- Malvern Star Stores at 2 Baylis Street are advertising Astor 15 cubic foot refrigerators from $189, Hitachi vacuum cleaners for $39.95 and automatic toasters for $12.95.
- Wagga livestock officer, George Simpson, is retiring after 42 years’ service.
- Representatives of the Wagga Diocesan Provident Fund including Bishop Carroll, Clare Stevens, Mr E Rockcliff, Vince Neville and Mr B Allen met for a seminar and dinner in the Colonial Room of the Zebra Club motel.
- The National President of the Round Tables of Great Britain, Mr Mick Thorpe and his wife were guests of the Wagga Apex Club at a dinner held in the Elizabeth Lounge of the Wagga Leagues Club.
- Wagga Bengal Tavern is advertising a scrumptious continental and oriental menu in an intimate cosy atmosphere at the D’Hudson Arcade opposite Hoyts Theatre.
- Lyndall Kingston (6 from the left) was announced as the 1971 Miss Rugby League at a cabaret evening at the Wagga Leagues Club.
- Wagga Teachers’ College students and personnel from RAAF Forest Hill are helping Wagga Jaycees with their “litterthon” this week.
- Miss Jan Kalis gained second place in the Third Year Cocktail Style section of the annual hairdressing competition held at the Chevron Hotel in Sydney.
- Hore and Davies are advertising a contemporary new Log Cabin, weatherboard fibro, three-bedroom house at Kooringal for $11,250.
